Elementary School

THE PLACE WHERE STUDENTS FIND THEIR PATH FORWARD

As children grow and develop, so too does their curriculum. Elementary education at Seacoast Waldorf School begins with first grade, where a child’s emotional life and imagination are prized. They take steps toward more academic instruction, presented in concert with artistic work, drama, movement, music, and crafts.

Seacoast elementary students learn academic subjects in weeks-long blocks, including language arts, mythology, history, geography, geology, algebra, geometry, biology, astronomy, physics, chemistry, and more. “Main lesson,” the first academic focus of the day, goes deep into a particular subject for an extended time, and students fill main lesson books with writing and art about what they learn. These main lesson books become treasured keepsakes that mark the milestones of their education.

Seacoast Waldorf School strives for academic excellence through artistic integration, multi-day experiential trips, creative, hands-on learning, and an introduction to critical thinking. We encourage cooperation over competition and seek to engage students in the joy of learning.

Elementary-age students experience special subject classes to enrich and support their academic learning, including music, art, handwork, woodwork, and physical education.
