Grade 2/3 Classroom Assistant Teacher

Seacoast Waldorf School welcomes applications for a full-time Grade 2/3 Assistant Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate has experience in helping teachers in a classroom environment, strong interpersonal skills, dependable, patient with children including those with moderate special needs and be able to stand and move for long periods of time. This candidate should also be flexible, a quick learner, have excellent communication and observation skills and love working with energetic young children! We are looking for candidates who are dedicated to Waldorf education, interested in Anthroposophy, and possess a love of teaching. 

The Assistant Teacher should be comfortable taking direction and guidance from the Class Teacher and Subject Teachers regarding the day-to-day responsibilities in a Waldorf classroom as well as lead the class as a substitute on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all classroom activities to provide a healthy model for the children. This may include but is not limited to movement circles, singing, games and projects.

  • Support the Grade 2/3 Teacher by anticipating needs within the classroom 

  • Guide individual or small groups of students who need extra support 

  • Help hold the rhythm and expectations of a large class throughout the day

  • Assist with transitions between classes or activities and recess supervision

  • Help to maintain the order and harmony of the classroom 

  • Prepare equipment and supplies for a variety of lessons and activities.

  • Check in daily with the Grade 2/3 Teacher and Subject Teachers as needed.

This is an hourly position 8:15 - 3:15 pm Monday through Friday and includes paid sick time, snow days, and a paid break during the day. Attendance is required at one monthly faculty meeting after school, 3 days of in-service and training meetings in August and June with other professional development opportunities throughout the year and upon request. 

About Our School

Seacoast Waldorf School is an Associate member of AWSNA that serves students from preschool through eighth grade. Our school consists of an Early Childhood Program, serving Nursery through Kindergarten and Grades 1-8. We have a full specialty schedule, an educational support specialist as well as a full administrative staff. The school is celebrating its 22nd year.

Seacoast Waldorf School is located on the Seacoast of Maine, in an area that is rich in arts, culture and history. Only minutes from the ocean, Seacoast Waldorf School is also centrally located between Boston, MA, Portland, ME and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Our school campus is made up of an early childhood/lower school building and upper school building located on 5 acres and surrounded by conservation land with woods, trails and many opportunities for exploration.
